Complete Guide: ISBN, Cataloging & Copyright
One of the biggest questions for new authors is about the bureaucratic side of publishing. Let's clarify each required document.
ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
ISBN is a unique number that identifies your book worldwide. In Brazil, it is provided by CBL. Each format (print, e-book, audiobook) needs a different ISBN.
Cataloging Sheet
The cataloging sheet is a standardised bibliographic description that facilitates your book's cataloging in libraries. It must be prepared by a librarian registered with CRB.
Copyright Registration
Registration at EDA (National Library Copyright Office) is not mandatory, since your rights exist from the moment of creation. However, registration serves as proof of authorship in case of disputes.
Costs involved
ISBN costs between R$ 22 and R$ 30 per unit. The cataloging sheet can be obtained for R$ 50 to R$ 150. EDA registration starts at R$ 20.
